      Summary

Catherine “Cat” Cranwell is a beloved and popular influencer.  However, all of that changes when her business partner ends up getting them into some serious legal trouble. Humiliated and depressed, Catherine escapes to work with her uncle at Kannery National Park, Montana. There she meets a sweet but strange group of junior rangers, is forced to deal with regular snowstorms and participate in the small town’s quirky traditions. Even though this is the polar opposite of her life in the city, Cat starts to reconnect with parts of herself that she has forgotten. And to top it all off, she starts to develop a crush on park ranger Zaiah Smith, who just so happens to hate everything that has to deal with social media. Will Cat be able to hold onto to this new version of herself, Zaiah and her job as an influencer?

        Review

This is my second book from Melissa Ferguson and I have to say that I like this one more than the first. Let me start off by saying, I am not into social media and I am blissfully unaware of the popular influencer right now.  Now that is not to say that I didn’t have my moments watching various book and tech influencers on YouTube and followed some of my favorites on my old Instagram account. However, I wasn’t enjoying it anymore and decided to distance myself from it all. Now I have social media more as an obligation than anything else but I do not use them. So imagine my surprise when I ended up liking this book towards the end.

While reading this book, it got annoying being in Cat’s head sometimes. She kept jumping to conclusions about what Zaiah thought of her and she did sound like the entitled influencer that she became. However, the further we go along it starts to make sense why she is that way. She spent so many years in the spotlight and people fawning over her that meeting someone who doesn’t care about her job as an influencer can be jarring. The more time she spent out of the spotlight, we begin to see who she truly is and the reasons why she feels the way that she does. The romance between Zaiah and Cat was sweet as they got to know each other. However, it wasn’t the main focus of the book so we only got a few scenes of them actually being together.

Something that I appreciated that the book explored was the dangers of social media, smartphones and being an influencer. Aside from the internet trolls that they get, there are some people who would go as far as to hurt them or make an attempt to because they are obsessed with them. The fans feel like they are entitled to every waking moment of their lives and when they make a mistake, the same fans turn into harsh critics quickly and say hateful things. The author makes it a point to address the effects that being an influencer has on their mental health. The constant need to post things that are trending and doing whatever it takes to get their numbers up can be addicting. There is also the issues with smartphones and picking them up at every moment of the day and not allowing ourselves get bored and experience life around us.

Overall, I thought that this book was good. It made me rethink my relationship with smartphones and try to find more ways to unplug. I do wish that we had the chance to explore the relationship between Cat and Zaiah but I do think that fans of clean romance will enjoy this book.
